The countdown to the May 18th municipal elections is underway and by all accounts the ANC is set to retain most of the wards and Mayorships it won in the previous Municipal elections. It must be said however, that some of the opposition parties, especially the Democratic Alliance (DA) have put on a rather feisty campaign. The DA's campaign message has been about its track record of service delivery in the Western Cape.
What is clear is that unless anything goes horribly wrong for the ANC, the ruling party should have a mayor in the following Metro Municipalities: eThekwini, Tshwane and eKurhuleni. The DA are incumbents in Cape Town and the popular Patricia Delille is set to secure the Mayorship of that city for her new party. Nelson Mandela Bay Metro will be closely fought between the ANC and COPE. It seems a foregone conclusion that the ANC will win the City of Joburg and install a new Mayor to replace the outgoing and longstanding Mayor, Amos Masondo.
Who will your vote go to, come 18th May?
